This Christmas Twitter Tree is powered entirely by kindness (and they need your help)

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Brought to you by SPAR.

With the switch flipped by former Miss World Rosanna Davison, the SPAR Twitter Tree is officially open for business… and powered entirely by your tweets!

A genius idea that lets people do their bit for a great cause with a swipe of their phone, this year’s SPAR Twitter Tree will raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.

Here’s how it works: All you have to do is use the #underthetree hashtag in a tweet to light a bulb on the tree. One bulb will begin to glow every time a certain number of tweets are reached.

When all the bulbs on the tree are lit, SPAR will donate a whopping €20,000 to CFI!

This is the fourth year SPAR has asked people to support their Twitter Tree for charity and the company will raise money for CFI for two years, with this year’s campaign fronted by Jillian McNulty, who has CF and is a leading campaigner for and ambassador of CFI.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system of about 1200 children and adults in this country (70,000 worldwide).

Jillian was instrumental in getting the drug Orkambi made available to CF sufferers earlier this year. This drug has significant benefits for those who live with CF and greatly enhances their life expectancy.

So what are you waiting for? Dig out your phone, send a tweet and help SPAR make a real difference this Christmas.

This Christmas, SPAR is asking you to help raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. All you have to do is tweet #underthetree to light up the tree and help them reach their goal!  Once all the lights are illuminated, SPAR will make the substantial donation of €20,000 to Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, celebrating its first year as the official charity partner.
