Dad uses very inventive method for ‘breastfeeding’ his newborn baby

Olivia Hayes

It was a very eventful night.

A mum and dad from Wisconsin in the US have told their story of the eventful night their baby was born, where dad, Maximilian was the first to ‘breastfeed’ their newborn daughter.

At the birth of their baby, Rosalie, mum April had pre-eclampsia, and high blood pressure which was followed on by a seizure resulted in an emergency Caesarean section. She also had a seizure after the birth.

“A nurse came out with our beautiful baby girl,” Maximilian told the BBC. “We went to the nursery, I sat down and took off my shirt for some skin-to-skin time.

“The nurse said we needed to get her a little formula and do some finger feeding, just something to get her started.

“Then the nurse asked if maybe I would like to throw a nipple on and do some real breastfeeding. Me being a big joker with the ability to try just about anything once, I said sure, why not.

“I’ve never breastfed or even thought in a thousand years I would. I was the first to breast feed the baby!”

The nurse attached a plastic nipple to the dad’s chest which was linked to a formula-filled syringe, and so he was able to ‘breastfeed’ their new baby.

“I felt a connection the minute I saw my little girl. I got to hold her and help her get use to breastfeeding I hope,” he said.
