Galway Theatre Festival, May 1-9, Galway
The Galway Theatre Festival kicks off this weekend with nine days of exciting theatre, circus, spectacle and story-telling. To celebrate, Cava Bodega on Middle Street will be serving a special pre-theatre tapas menu daily from 5pm to 6.30pm (€15 for two tapas and a glass of wine).
Brunch (or beer) at Camden Exchange
Newly opened in the old National Bank premises in Dublin city, Camden Exchange is doing a roaring trade serving booze, brunch and street food from an authentic 1970s vintage Citron Hy van. Love craft beer? Try the Brown Paper Bag Project Vlad the Baker pale ale, with notes of green apple, caramel and citrus fruits.

Purveyors of the finest Americana, The White Horse Guitar Club play Sin É on Thursday night. Get there early if you want a seat, their latest video, a cover of Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight by Rodney Crowell has racked up almost 100,000 views on Facebook so it’s likely to be a busy one. Cinema al fresco
Starting May 7, all over Dublin, €5
Happenings and Dublin City Council will be opening outdoor cinemas in parks throughout Dublin once again this summer. Fancy a bit of Top Gun action? A romantic night on picnic blankets with Amelie? Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Screenings at Merrion Square, Fitzwilliam Square, The Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Rathmines, Phibsborough, Herbert Park and many more locations will be announced 36 hours beforehand (to work around the weather) so check the Facebook page and the website regularly.

Marks and Spencer’s Dine in for Two deal is back. This time around it includes mains such as Rotisserie Chicken, Lemongrass Hake and Lamb Leg Steaks with plenty of fancy accoutrements. €14 for a main course, side, dessert and a bottle of wine.
