Should We Wait To Put Our Newborn Baby Pics Up Online?

Sharyn Hayden

A friend recently had a baby and we were thrilled to be on ‘The Text List’ to hear the good news soon after he was born.

I was dying to see a pic of the little man so that I could have my mandatory cry over his cuteness.

As we all do these days, I took to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see if any photos had been uploaded.

They hadn’t, and he was at least one day old so I was all like, ‘Where IS he?!’

And then I had a little think to myself; they were so right to hang on and take their time before presenting their angel to the world on social media.

Sure there’s time enough for that, right?

When my partner and I had our own kids, we only waited a day or so on each baby before posting a photo.

As soon as the main people had been informed of their arrival – close family and friends – and we had a few visitors under our belts, we introduced them to our wider circles via social media.

But should we have waited longer? A week, a month, a year?

Should we have encouraged those who wanted to see what our newborns looked like, to come and visit them in person, and give them a real kiss and a cuddle?

In hindsight, I sort of wish we had hung on a bit longer, to keep our babies to ourselves and not be so eager to show them off in such a public way.

My friend did get a photo up eventually and.. that baby is absolutely GORGEOUS.

What about you, did you put a first pic up straight away or wait? Let us know in the comments on Facebook.
