These Are The Situations That Make Irish People Cringe

Katie Mythen-Lynch

From the reach for a high five that ends in a handshake, to the moment you wave across a busy street to the wrong person, there are plenty of embarrassing moments we can all relate to.

Now some new research gives an insight into exactly what makes us most uncomfortable. An Irish Life survey showed that over a third (35 per cent) of parents have had their children reveal embarrassing things about their home life in public, and 25 per cent of parents have felt discomfort doing the dreaded ‘birds and the bees’ talk with their teenage children.

A further 20 per cent feel uncomfortable with the way their teenage children dress while heading to a disco.

And despite being known as a nation with the gift of the gab, 26 per cent of Irish people have forgotten the punchline to a joke half way through, and 19 per cent of us are uncomfortable on blind dates and first dates.

Over a third of us (37 per cent) are uncomfortable asking for a pay rise, and three in five of us are cautious when it comes to investing, something Irish Life hope to remedy with a simple profile test to find which MAPS investment fund is right for you.

Nearly half (45 per cent) of us have made the ultimate clanger by waving at someone, only to realise it was a stranger.
