Survey reveals what makes a “cool” parent

HerFamily

Are you a cool parent?

It seems a survey has revealed what activities and abilities make you a “cool” parent to teenage kids.

(We’re not going to lie, we don’t really care if they think we’re cool or not, we care more about whether they listen to us and the decisions they make in life.)

Anyway, the study – involving 1,000 teens in the UK, aged between 13 and 19, and commissioned by Currys PC World – found that the biggest indicator that you’re cool is respecting their privacy.

The second most important characteristic is that you listen well, followed by looking after them when they’re sick (two things that we imagine ALL parents would do, cool or not).

The top five tell-tale signs of a cool parent was rounded out by letting friends hang out at the house and driving them around (of course it was).

Other things that made it into the list included knowing the words to current pop songs, still looking good in jeans, being a non-smoker, cooking the perfect roast potatoes and understanding text lingo.

What they don’t like is you telling them what to wear, going through their phone or kissing them in public. (The latter one will happen for the rest of their days whether they like it or not!)

The research also found that over 95 per cent said they enjoyed hanging out with their parents. (Can’t say this doesn’t fill us with a warm fuzzy feeling.)
