This actress has an important message for parents

Melissa McCarthy’s brilliant response to a film critic recently holds an important message for parents, and shows why being kind to yourself is so important for your kids.

The actress, who starred in the 2014 comedy film ‘Tammy’, recently ran into a critic who had seen the film and written a vicious review including some cruel and sexist comments about her performance.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Melissa talked about what happened when she confronted the critic about his review. She asked, “Are you the one who wrote I was only a good actor when I looked more attractive and that my husband should never be allowed to direct me because he allowed me to look so homely?”

When he admitted he was, Melissa asked, “Would you say that to any guy?” She continued, “When John C. Reilly – or any actor – is playing a character that is depressed and dejected, would you say, ‘Well, you look terrible!’?”

She then asked the critic if he had a daughter, and when he said he did, she said to him, “Watch what you say to her.” Adding, “Do you tell her she’s only worthwhile or valid when she’s pretty?”

Talking about the confrontation on the Ellen De Generes show, she said that the reporter was a “loving father” and a “kind man,” but said that his attitude speaks to an overall problem in Hollywood.

“I said, ‘Just know that every time you write stuff, every young girl in this country reads that and they just get a little bit chipped away,” the actress said. “And I just think that we tear down women in this country for all these superficial reasons and women are so great and strong, and I think he really heard that.”

Interesting comments that perhaps prove how important it is to not only be accepting of and kind to others, but also ourselves. Especially around our children.

Melissa McCarthy Honored On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame on May 19, 2015 in Hollywood, California.
