Gross! This picture of what fizzy drinks really do to your teeth will shock all parents

Niamh Maher

A dentist has conducted his own experiment, to find out what the REAL damage is.

You pop your tooth in a glass of Coke and the next morning it’s completely eroded, well that’s what we’re all told as kids, but is it actually true?

Dr. Tom Bierman, a dentist based in San Diego decided to find out.

In his twenties he had his wisdom teeth removed and his parents kept them (because, parents)

In testing the theory that fizzy drinks erode and destroy teeth, Dr.Bierman put the first tooth in a bottle of a popular energy drink, the second tooth went into a bottle of regular Coke, the third went into a bottle of Diet Coke, and the final tooth was placed in water as a control group.

After two weeks the results were in, the regular Coke tooth was stained black.

The Diet Coke tooth was better but definitely still stained, and the water had no effect.

It was the energy drink that shocked Dr.Bierman the most.

Chunks of enamel had come off it, and this drink, in particular, was the sugar-free version, YIKES!

So it seems Coke isn’t the worst culprit when it comes to decaying our teeth, it’s not good, but according to this study energy drinks are the WORST.

I think we’ll stick to water.
