Always starving? 10 quick (and healthy) snacks for hungry kids

Trine Jensen-Burke

Are your kids prone to arriving home from school or creche absolutely starving too?

That, or the minute we are all heading out to the door to go somewhere, declare they are ‘super hungry’ and need a snack right this minute.

Sounds familiar? I know.

And the thing is, we all want to make sure our kids eat as healthy as possible, so I find I am always on the hunt for good-for-them snacks to whip up or prepare ahead, and have, I am happy to admit, assembled quite the collection of recipes at this stage.

Want to be prepared for all those starving kids, not-yet-dinner moments? There 10 are about to save you, mama:

1. Pumpkin Spice Granola Bars

If you have school-age kids, these granola bars make a great addition to their lunch box, or an after school snack — and they also act as a convenient on-the go breakfast or mid-afternoon pick-me-up for us mamas too.

9. Lime and Parmesan Popcorn

Skip the bag of microwaved popcorn and satisfy a snack craving by making your own flavored popcorn. In this healthy popcorn recipe, we use Parmesan cheese, lime zest and a hint of chili powder, but feel free to use your favorite spices. For the best flavor, opt for olive oil cooking spray to help the toppings stick to the popcorn.

10. Carrot Stars

Not only are these yummy on their own, but they are also perfect for serving with a healthy dip like hummus or Greek yogurt.
