A recent survey has found that Irish parents feel the biggest challenge at meal time is the length of time it takes to create a dish that suits the whole family.

The survey of over 1,000 parents, which was commissioned by Chicago Town’s The Pizza Kitchen, has found that along with the time it takes in the kitchen, fussy eaters and different tastes are among the biggest challenges faced by Irish parents each day.

Over 80 percent said they spend more time preparing and cooking than actually enjoying the meal. A quarter admitted that sometimes they’re not even hungry for their own meal when it comes time to eat it.

Furthermore, 22 percent said they would go without their own dinner if it meant their child ate their entire meal, while just under 70 percent said that getting a meal handed to them was their favourite thing.

64 percent said they’d rather spend their weekend having quality time with their kids instead of in the kitchen.

Fussy little eaters were also a big challenge for parents at meal time with just under half saying their main tactic for getting their children to eat was by compromising with the child and getting them to eat a few more spoonfuls. Other successful tactics used by parents included putting food out on the table to share so they can choose for themselves.

Speaking about the survey, Jennifer Coffey, Marketing Manager of Chicago Town’s The Pizza Kitchen said:

“This research shows that although parents see spending time with their family as paramount, it is becoming more and more difficult for time strapped Irish families to get an opportunity to sit down and share a meal together. Parents are struggling to find the time to prepare meals and convenient meal solutions that suit everyones tastes and differing schedules.”
