If you love sushi as much as we love sushi, I am pretty sure you’ll be as excited about this food hack as we are.
Especially if you have ever tried to recreate your favourite eat-out food at home. Because while sounding simple in theory, getting those little parcels of rice to form into the perfectly shaped sushi is indeed a little trickier than one would anticipate.
If you, like us, have tried and ended up with something more resembling a rice salad than actual sushi, this trick is for you:
The best bit? All you need is an ice cube tray.
According to Rocketnews24, is was Japanese twitter user @gonnakill_uta who came up with an easy solution to the problem that’s surprising everyone when making sushi at home.
This is how you should be making your nigiri sushi:
Ingredients
Sushi rice, boiled and ready
1 ice cube tray
A little oil, for greasing the ice cube tray
Your preferred slices of raw fish
Instructions
Step 1. Pack the prepared sushi rice into the ice cube tray. Give it a good squeeze, so that the rice packs tightly together.
Step 2. Turn the tray over onto a bamboo sushi mat and give it a good whack. Instantly, you’ve got more than a dozen pieces of evenly-shaped rice!
Step 3. Pop your preferred raw fish slices on top and you’ve just made sushi!
Oh, and with a few more trays, you can make enough for a platter to enjoy with friends and family. Entertaining? Sorted.
Step 4: Serve with little dipping bowls of soy sauce, wasabi and pickled ginger.
It’s so simple we can’t believe we didn’t think of this first!
