Pink hot chocolate is the ultimate Christmas Eve treat (and it’s SO easy to make)

Trine Jensen-Burke

‘Twas the night before Christmas.

Well, not quite, but make sure you get all the ingredients you need (there’s not many), so that you can whip this seriously delicious (and oh-so-Instagrammable) treat up for when the actual night before rolls around in a couple of days.

The trick? White chocolate instead of brown – meaning your little drop of food colouring in the frosting on top (or whipped cream) will make this drink look pink, frothy and super-tempting.

Pink hot chocolate

Ingredients

4 cups whole milk
12 oz. white chocolate, finely chopped
1 tsp. vanilla bean paste (or 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract)
1/8 tsp. salt
Pink or red food colouring
Frosting (or whipped cream)

Directions

Combine milk, chocolate, vanilla, and salt in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until mixture is hot and chocolate is melted and smooth (do not let boil), 6 to 8 minutes.

Add a few drops of food coloring to the frosting or whipped cream and stir twice to create a swirl pattern; carefully transfer to a piping bag. Pipe on top of hot chocolate in mugs.
