Some children take a disliking to fruit and veg, and it can be very difficult to change their mind. Whether it’s down to their texture or taste, they will point blank refuse to eat them.

An artist in New Zealand, Hazel Zakariya, could help parents with that.

For the past few years, she’s been creating wonderful works of food art. On the surface of a smoothie, soup, or even a slice of bread, she carefully draws anything from a penguin to a koala. In other words, a child’s dream dish.

She accidentally came across the idea when she was trying to create some art in her soup. The coconut cream that she was using to garnish her soup wasn’t working out as she has planned so she decided to use some pesto to turn it into a tree.

From there, she began working her ideas into smoothies and bread as well as soup.

Take a look at some of her creations.

She’s not limited to animals either, with her Harry Potter-themed works going down a storm online.

While we’re under no illusion that we’ll be able to re-create these masterpieces, it does give us some inspiration to help with a child’s intake of fruit and vegetables.

It could be a simple design of a smiley face, but it’s definitely worth a try.
