Kate Middleton Is Reviving This Much-Loved Hairstyle Of Our Youth

Amanda Cassidy

Do you remember paisley shirts, crimpers, and scrunchies?

Well, that sums me up perfectly during my early teenage years. When I wasn’t hanging out in shopping centers, swaying to ‘Back for Good‘, I was busy perfecting ‘the twist’ on my not-yet-heat-damaged hair. This 90’s hairstyle was spotted on the Duchess of Cambridge out and about recently.

For the uninitiated, the twist was a halfway between a ponytail and a bun. It was the preferred hairstyle for more formal events, like on parents night at school, when you were a bridesmaid at your uncle’s wedding and that time you briefly appeared on Blackboard Jungle.

The twist can be made using a handy device called a topsy tail. It means our favourite childhood style is easier than ever to recreate. And like everything that Kate does, it is instantly trending on social media.

What is not to love – it’s casual, bobo and surprisingly chic.

Here’s how:

1. Part your hair as normal and take a chunk of hair just above your ear. Repeat on the other side.

2. Tie the two pieces of hair at the back of your head in a bobbin.

3. Push your ponytail up and over the hairband, pulling it through the other side – Voila. You are now Princess Perfect.

The ombre makes it look even better!

This romantic look is one throwback trend I will definitely be trying.

Now all I have to do is find hose combs I used to put each side of my head.

Do you remember the twist? What else reminds you of the 90’s?
