HerFamily

One of the biggest decisions that you’ll make for your child is what primary school they go to.

It’s not a decision that should be taken lightly or quickly and you should also try to gather as much information about the establishments you are considering before you choose one.

To help you, we’ve devised a list of questions to ask when you’re choosing a school for your little ones.

Are you in their catchment area?

Are there fees?

Is there a uniform?

What’s the school’s reputation like?

What is their discipline policy like?

Is it a requirement that your child is christened?

What religious education to you give?

What’s the enrolment policy?

When do I have to apply?

Is the schoolyard split for different ages of kids?

What after-school activities are available?

Does it have a breakfast club?

What food options are there for the kids?

What sports do they offer?

Is there a PTA?

What information do you need to provide?

What is the pupil-to-teacher ratio?

How many special needs assistants are there?

Is there a nurse?

Are the teachers experienced?

How regularly will you be updated on your child’s progress?

What exams/tests/homework will they have?

How much break-time/outdoor time will the kids get?

How do they deal if a child is unsettled?

What is their bullying policy?
