The first weeks are the hardest? For us, little man, they were the best of my life

Gillian Fitzpatrick

There is a lot of chat about how tough those early days and weeks are.

Because they are tough – the adjustments are monumental; the sleep is broken, and even that overwhelming feeling of responsibility can be downright terrifying.

But as her baba hits that milestone 12 week mark, one Dublin mama has now come out in defence of her own foray into motherhood.

In a powerful post on Instagram, Georgia Heffernan – an account manager at Brown Thomas – has described the bliss that she and her partner, Peter Foley, experienced.

Sharing an earlier snap of her son, the young woman explained: “This photo was taken when you were only 6 days old, tiny & sleepy & perfect. I was trying to figure you out with little sleep & so many hormones. You were so alert, so calm, so sweet, your little sparkling eyes full of wonder & intrigue.

“I would look into your Moses basket at night when you were ready to feed, those big eyes just looking out, never crying, and think how on earth will I ever love him enough. How will I repay him for teaching me so much, for being such a gentle baby & allowing us to learn from him.

“Today you’re 12 weeks old, you’re strong & determined & full of smiles. I wake up every day more in love with you than I was the day before, and never knowing how that’s possible.

“You made me & Peter a family, you have brought so much joy into all our lives & you have made your Mama so proud. They say the first 12 weeks are the hardest, but for us little man, they have been the absolute best of my life x.”
