Sleep-training works for some babies but for others, it doesn’t succeed at all.
It all depends on what suits your son or daughter and that’s why no one can really tell you what’s right or wrong, only chip in with some advice along the way.
Esther Vandersluis is one mum who decided against sleep training her little girl.
Her daughter is still co-sleeping with her at 21 months old but she has no regrets about her parenting decision.
Esther says that despite the fact that some people would criticise her for giving in to her ‘baby’s wants’, she’s happy she did because of all the quality time they had together.
“I don’t regret my baby sleeping on me while I rocked her in the rocking chair, cuddling her close and soaking in her smell, for hours at a time.
“I don’t regret bringing her to peacefully sleep beside me, watching her tiny body rise up and down with each breath.
“I don’t regret nursing her to sleep every single time and one last time.
“I don’t regret giving her that bottle and holding her close while she fell asleep sucking. I don’t even regret still having to do that now at 22 months old because she would rather mommy hold her close than do it on her own”.
Esther, who shared her thoughts on the Facebook page for her blog, A Beautiful Alarm, said that she and her little one are now ready to begin the co-sleeping process but she misses the early days so much.
This mum says that the extra time she got to hold her little girl was worth the ‘lack of sleep’.
Her post had quite the impact with multiple parents agreeing with her point. However, some said that the experts do know best.
What do you think mamas, agree or disagree with Esther’s views?
