It is an important part of becoming a parent.

But a new survey has found that one in seven parents think they have made a “terrible mistake” with the name they picked for their child.

The study of 2,000 mums and dads [via The Sun] found that a quarter of them have actually told their children that they regret their name choice.

20 per cent of parents began to dislike the name that they chose for their boy or girl after it began to become more popular.

Meanwhile, nearly 10 per cent became unhappy with the moniker they chose after celebrities picked the name one.

George, Charlotte and Louis have all made the list of celebrity baby names that put parents off; as have Miles and Luna, after Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s children.

Other names that parents have ruled out because of their celebrity connection include Bear (after Cheryl and Liam Payne’s son); Mason and Penelope (after Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian’s children); Harper (after David and Victoria Beckham’s daughter) and Kai (after Coleen and Wayne Rooney’s son).

Baby naming expert SJ Strum from the parenting website ChannelMum.com, who carried out the survey, said:

“Picking your baby name is one of the most important parts of becoming a parent – and it’s also something which everyone from friends and family to total strangers has an opinion on.

“Celebrity trends mean there are an ever-growing list of baby names to choose from, but this also means more opportunities to choose a name which you, or your child, then learn to loathe.”
