8 Things To Consider If One Of Your Bridesmaids Is Pregnant

Sharyn Hayden

Planning the perfect wedding day can often send brides-to-be into unprecedented Meltdown Status, so what to do if one of your chosen bridesmaids announces that she’s pregnant?

Well, first of all, don’t panic. You love your mate to bits and that’s why you asked her to be bridesmaid in the first place, right?

Aside from the fact that you might be bummed that you won’t get to neck shots together at the hen weekend, there really is nothing about your pal being pregnant that will otherwise impede on the day.

Here’s what to do:

1. Don’t take it personally

This is of utmost importance: realise that your pal hasn’t done this to upset you in any way, she’s just pregnant! It’s great news for her so be happy and put any negative feelings about it aside stat.

2. Talk to your mate

How do they feel about being a pregnant bridesmaid themselves? If they don’t feel as though they’d be up to it, let them know that you understand and figure out if you need to replace her. Make sure you really do understand though – its ‘s big deal, right?

3. Dress up

If you and your pal are happy that she will be Preggo Bridesmaid Supreme on your wedding day, then get busy figuring out how best to dress her. How many months’ pregnant she will be on your wedding day will make a difference to the dress you both decide on – empire line is probably the most comfortable and the safest option all round.

4. Shoe down

Give your pregnant bridesmaid the perfect gift of flat shoes for the entire day of your wedding. Pregnant feet can swell up to majorly uncomfortable levels and high heels can be really rough on a pregnant lady’s back. No one at the wedding will notice that one person is in flats, promise.

5. Have a seat

There is a lot of potential standing time at a wedding, between the ceremony and the photo shoots before you get to the reception. Be aware that your friend may well feel tired, dizzy and even nauseous here and there so make sure she doesn’t have to sit for any extended period of time.

6. Keep it local

If you are planning on having your hen party or wedding abroad, know that your friend may not be able to travel with you. If you really want and need this lady to be a part of your wedding, then you may need to reconsider some of your plans. What’s most important for your wedding is up to you at the end of the day.

7. Make room for Shirley Temple

You now need pregnant-friendly items on your wedding dinner and drinks menu. That means non-alcoholic drinks for starters AND anything from this list of foods. Rest assured that someone else in the wedding party is bound to be happy with the variety on offer too.

8. Be gracious

Although you are the stunning bride of the day, people really do love to see a pregnant lady too. Your friend might just hog a teeny bit of the limelight with people asking how she is and all of the pregnancy news. If you love her as much as you probably do by asking her to be a bridesmaid in the first place, then you’ll probably love this for her too…
