Renowned Spanish Fertility Clinic to Open Irish Base

Katie Mythen-Lynch

An internationally renowned Spanish fertility clinic known for its high in-vitro fertilisation success rates is about to open a base in Ireland.

The Institut Marquès, headquartered in Barcelona, has acquired Clane Fertility Clinic in Clane, Co Kildare, where its specialist medical team will join the team of 23 professionals currently working in Institut Marquès Ireland.

With more than 90 years of experience in the field, the Institut Marquès is recognised for its high success rates of 89 per cent in In-Vitro Fertilization with donor egg treatments and specialises in difficult cases.

At a scientific level, the institute has also carried out unique research into the effect of music on Assisted Reproduction treatments, which showed that eggs cultivated with music improve their fertilisation rate by around five per cent. This is because the micro vibrations stir the culture media in which the egg swims, improving the distribution of the nutrients it needs.

A study of more than 1.000 patients revealed that foetuses can hear from week 16 (measuring 11cm) as long as the sound reaches them through mother’s vagina. This can be achieved by using Babypod, the only vaginal device that helps to communicate effectively with the foetus.

The Clane clinic will be supported by consultation offices in Dublin and London, where patients, before now, could start their treatment and travel to Barcelona later to carry out the embryo transfer in the case of IVF. Now the Spanish firm can offer all treatments in their Irish facilities, without the need to travel.

Institut Marquès Ireland is currently processing the appropriate authorisation with the HPRA.
