Swimwear for ALL body shapes and sizes

HerFamily

Better late than never, but according to forecasters summer 2015 is finally about to begin. Whether you are vacationing or staycationing, you’re going to need a new swimsuit or bikini.

These babies are on-trend, but body-conscious too. No matter what your shape is. we’ve got you covered via our mates at maven46:

1. The triangle bikini

The buzz? Triangle bikinis are not going anywhere, but the big news is the introduction of neoprene. Drawing on its original roots (scuba wear) before it became outerwear, bonded neoprene fabrics provide extra support when needed. Naturally, we tend to like that.

Body type: Suited to small or medium-busted gals, surfer or athletic types due to lack of support and coverage (unless you opt for the neoprene variety). Nothing says ‘I am body confident’ like a triangle bikini, whatever size body you are rocking.

Suggestion? If you are little in the bust department balance with a large neck piece of your choice (or ours). Asymmetry solved.

2. The high neck

The buzz? Cross-over bust bikinis, high neck cropped tank tops and even a swimsuit with its own collar. Yep, we do look after you lot. The modesty factor is so in, but with crop tops showing no sign of disappearing, it’s little wonder they were adapted for swimwear. Blogger Vanessa Hong of The Haute Pursuit recently teamed up with swimwear designer Beth Richards to showcase a new range of urban swimwear. We think you might love it.

Body type: Larger bust? Great. The increased support allows the same freedom as a halterneck dress, lifting the girls where needed. If you like to use the beach and water as a place of recreation on time off, you sports enthusiasts will adore these styles too.

Suggestion? Sun worshipers steer clear. Tan lines would be a bit of a nightmare.

3. The bandeau

The buzz? The swimwear shows of the season have been brimming with bandeau styles. Minimal straight lines are always bankable choices, but attractive 1970’s styles have made a bigger impact this year. Twists, die cuts, piping and prints will be on our shopping list. Fact.

Body type: Fuller busts can’t have all the fun – this one is a non-runner for you gals in my opinion. If you ignore my advice, beware: playing volleyball or diving may become a topless tussle!

Suggestion? If you are slightly smaller on the hip area, make the low rise bandeau your first choice for symmetry.

4. The one-piece

The buzz? Nothing says ‘Rihanna has nothing on me’ like a cutaway swimsuit – we can all dream, eh? From peplum, and bandeau to high neck and cutaway, the allure of the one-piece stands firm in my mind and will remain so.

Body type: To hide extra curvy bits and keep everything where it’s meant to be, nicely secured, this is the clear winner. Peplum styles suit women with larger busts. The frill detail will balance the lower torso making your body look more streamlined. Suits with in-built belts will accentuate the waist. Ruched detailing distracts the eye with its drape and flattens everything down, producing a very lean silhouette.

Suggestion? A big floppy sun hat in a stone or straw colour is an iconic choice to perfect this chic styling.

5. The high-waisted

The buzz? My affinity with ‘nanny knicks’ has just grown. These retro high-waisted bikini sets with a modern edge are top shelf buys. Stylish, trendy and practical, the women of the 1950’s had it right the first time. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Body type: Tailor-made for curvy shapes. If you are apple shaped: stick with the beautiful one-piece options. Count on achieving a flattering effect, gaining structure in the right places and emphasising the waist, simultaneously.

Suggestion? I suggest ‘Clarins Red’ lipstick and enjoying your transformation into a complete ride.
