Should you be wearing a bra in bed?

HerFamily

I reckon every woman has a love/hate relationship with their bra.

I mean, as a girl I was curious about them and couldn’t wait to be old enough to wear one. Then I reached that stage. Then I went through a phase of buying a new pair of underwear every time I went shopping because of the confidence it gave me (let’s just say, I’m not exactly blessed in the chest department). And now, I kind of can’t wait to take it off at the end of the day and feel comfortable again.

Like I said, it’s a love/hate relationship which won’t end any time soon, but it did get me thinking about the debate of whether wearing a bra when you’re sleeping is good for you or whether you should give the “ladies” a breather every once in a while.

So I scoured the internet and came across numerous articles which provided me with lots of information. Here’s what I found out…

  1. A recent study revealed that those who aren’t regular bra wearers had better lift and natural breast tone than those who wore them constantly. In other words, the study found out that wearing a bra doesn’t necessarily help with support or reduce sagging.
  2. Many experts do say that if you have larger breasts, as in bigger than a C-cup, wearing a bra when sleeping can prevent discomfort, provide support and reduce the chance of premature sagging as well as stretch marks.
  3. Wearing the wrong size of bra whilst sleeping, whatever cup size you are, can lead to inflammation and irritation. In fact, wearing the wrong size of bra at any time of the day isn’t good for you or your boobs and can lead to circulation problems.
  4. Style and material are key. If you would rather wear a bra in bed, go for a breathable material such as cotton and avoid restrictive styles such as sports bras and underwired bras. Again, wearing the right size is key.
  5. You should do what is right for you. If you find that a bra makes you uncomfortable in bed and affects your sleep, ditch it. If you do feel you need to have that extra support, wear one (but make sure you pick the right type).
