What age is it ok for teens to start attending sleepovers away from the house?

What do you think?

Even though it can be nice for your children to become more independent as they grow older, it can also be hard to let go.

Unfortunately, they don’t stay little forever and eventually want to go off on their own, but when is it the right age to let, particularly in regards to things like sleepovers?

One mum posed this exact question recently in parenting forum Mama Uncut and the answers were a real mixed bag;

“When would you allow your kids to have sleepovers at other people’s houses?

My teen tells me I am not being fair because I do not like her to sleep away from our house…but I just want to keep her safe.”

Some parents thought she was being too strict while others said she was dead right not to allow her teen to sleepover at anyone’s house;

“I totally get it! But don’t keep her from it. Get more involved, know where she is and who she is with.

I believe you should know your kids friends parents just as much as your kids know their friend.”

“You’re absolutely right.

My kids won’t be sleeping over at no ones house in this day and age I don’t care how old they are once they turn 18 maybe 21 lol they can do whatever they want.”

Overall the answers were pretty much 50/50 when it came to whether or not you should allow your teen to attend sleepovers.

Honestly I can see it from both sides. While on the one hand I think teens should be able to enjoy being teens and attending sleepovers, I can also understand being worried when sending your child to another person’s home.

How about you? Do you allow your teenager to attend sleepovers or is it a big no for you?
