Shock, horror! You’ve been pouring your Prosecco all wrong

Does your glass of bubbles go flat too quickly?

Anna O'Rourke

You can’t beat a glass of bubbles.

More and more of us are reaching for a bottle of Prosecco over the more traditional champagne these days, but do you actually know what your doing when it comes to pouring it?

According to one drinks expert, a lot of us aren’t getting it right.

Ed Betts, chief wine buyer with Asda in the UK, says that we shouldn’t pour into an upstanding glass as we’re wasting up the fizz.

Apparently we should really be tilting the glass to a 45 degree angle.

“It will not only make you look like a pro, but it will also ensure the glass doesn’t fill with bubbles too quickly,” he told Prima.

We also need to take it easy with pouring, he says.

“Slow and steady wins the race. Don’t pour the Prosecco or sparkling wine in one go. Start with a splash, then wait for the bubbles to settle before filling up the glass. Remember though, only fill the glass ¾ full to avoid spillage.”

We’re definitely guilty of filling up the glass straight away so we’ll be sure to try out this trick ASAP.
