Two women in critical condition following car crash in Co. Louth

The crash occurred on the N53 in Dundalk yesterday evening.

Gardaí are currently appealing for witnesses after two women were left in a critical condition following a road incident in Co. Louth last night.

As RTÉ reports, the incident occurred after a car hit a tree on the N53 in Rassan, Dundalk at 8:30pm.

Two of the car’s backseat passengers – women aged 21 and 23 – were critically injured and were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

The driver of the vehicle and the front seat passenger – two men in their late teens – were not injured in the crash.

The N53 was subsequently closed to allow for a forensic examination to take place. Local diversions are currently in place.

Any witnesses to the crash are being urged to come forward, and Gardaí are particularly appealing to anyone who was travelling on the N53 between 8pm and 9pm and who may have dash cam footage to get in touch.
