A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan yesterday morning killing at least twenty-three people to date.

In the southern city of Tainan, rescue teams have been continuing their efforts to find people who remain unaccounted for after a seventeen-story apartment block collapsed.

It is reported that the building contained a care centre for newborns and mothers.

Thankfully, a six-month old baby girl has most recently been rescued from the rubble, after more than thirty hours spent under the ruins.

Tainan Mayor William Lai said;

“Right now we are in the midst of trying to rescue over ten people.

“At the moment, the rescue force consists of special search teams from various counties and cities across Taiwan who have come to provide assistance.”

Taiwan’s government say the apartment building was not listed as a dangerous structure before the earthquake, but would launch an investigation into whether the original contractors had cut any corners in it’s construction.

We hope there will be more positive outcomes like this one for all of the families involved.
