Prince Charles denies new claims he was the one who speculated about Archie’s skin tone

He's dismissing the claims as pure "fiction".

Prince Charles has denied new claims that he was the person who speculated about the skin tone of his grandchildren born to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. A biography coming out this week claims he was the unnamed "senior royal" that the couple infamously accused of having "concerns and conversations" around the potential skin tone of their son, Archie, during an interview with Oprah Winfrey back in March. In the interview, Meghan, whose mother is black and father is white, told a shocked Oprah that there were "concerns and conversations about how dark [Archie’s] skin might be when he was born." "Those were conversations that family had with Harry," she said, though she declined to say who initiated those conversations when asked as the revelation would be too damaging. In a new book called Brothers And Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan, author Christopher Andersen claims a source close to the royal family said that Charles made the comment to his wife Camilla. Per Page Six, the source alleges that Charles said “I wonder what the children will look like?” as the couple had breakfast on the day Harry and Meghan's engagement was announced. Camilla is said to have been “somewhat taken aback” by the question and replied, “Well, absolutely gorgeous, I’m certain.” The source claims Charles then lowered his voice and asked “I mean, what do you think their children’s complexion might be?” A spokesperson for Prince Charles vehemently denied the accusations, telling Page Six: “This is fiction and not worth further comment.” Andersen elaborated on the claims in an interview with Today ahead of the book's Tuesday release, saying the comments were twisted by palace courtiers. "On the morning that Meghan and Harry's engagement was announced, in a very kind of benign way, Prince Charles started to muse on what their future grandchildren might look like," he said. "I mean, here's this beautiful biracial American woman and the world's most famous redhead. I'm a grandfather, of course, we all do this, speculate on it. "But it was turned into something very toxic, it was weaponised by the 'Men in Grey' who run the palace organisation. Unfortunately, by the time it got to Harry, that's the way he took it." During the March interview, Harry said he was "never going to share" the full story behind the "awkward," racially-charged conversation that left him "a bit shocked." However, Oprah later revealed that Harry said the comments weren't made by the Queen or Prince Philip.
