Health Minister to promise free GP care for under 18s

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Health Minister Leo Varadkar will pledge that, if re-elected, Fine Gael will insist on free GP care for all under 18s in Ireland and implement it as soon as possible.

According to a report in the Irish Independent, the announcement will come as part of Dr Varadkar’s address to the MacGill Summer School in Glenties tonight.

Better community care and preventative programmes to deal with alcohol abuse, poor diet and obesity are also expected to form part of the Minister’s plan.

More than 100,000 Irish families have registered for the Free GP Care for Under Sixes since its launch last month, out of a potential 270,000 eligible children.
