Prince Harry has reportedly proposed to Meghan Markle

His reason for doing it early is very sweet.

Ah, bless him.

Prince Harry has reportedly proposed to his girlfriend Meghan Markle. While they’ve only been together for one year, Harry got down on one knee recently.

He has yet to get the seal of approval from his grandmother, the Queen of England, but he wanted to start the engagement process early for a specific reason. Normally, members of the royal family have to stick to tradition and wait until they are with someone two years before getting engaged.

Harry broke this rule because he wants to make sure that his grandfather, Philip, who is 96, will still be alive when he weds.

He proposed to Meghan in Botswana, in Africa but has yet to give her the ring he made for her from Diana’s jewellery. Instead, he gave her a special hand crafted bracelet.

He intends to wait for Queen Elizabeth’s blessing before making an official announcement and giving her the £100k ring.

A friend of Harry’s told The Daily Star:

“The world is watching, so the royal red tape needs to be adhered to.

Meghan won’t be landing at Heathrow with a giant rock on her finger.

Harry’s told his friends he’s hoping to make the official announcement in September.

The setting and the bracelets were just so special to Harry.

He has always felt close to Diana in Africa and it was she who taught him about the meaning of the tribal beads as she spent so much time there.

Harry feels like he can be himself in Africa and the whole proposal was the private, free and expressive moment he had hoped for – made all the more so by keeping it as ‘their secret’ for a few weeks.”
