Starbucks’ Newest Coffee Drink Sounds All Sorts Of Amazing (And We Are Lining Up For A Taste Already!)

Trine Jensen-Burke

Are you one of the die-hard Starbucks coffee fans who is already on countdown until you can order your first PS (pumpkin spice) latte of the season?

Well, then you might be interested to hear about their newest offering, due to hit stores next week, that is – according to experts – going to be giving the popular pumpkin spice latte some serious competition.

Starting Tuesday, September 6, customers will be able to order the chile mocha—a seamless blend of sweet and spicy that’s reminiscent of a Mexican hot chocolate, according to Business Insider—off the Starbucks seasonal menu.

Made with espresso, cocoa powder, and a blend of spices steamed together with milk, the chile mocha has a more pronounced chocolate flavor than the coffee chain’s original mocha, apparently. And then the whipped cream topping is where the heat comes in: Because – drum roll – baristas will be combining cayenne pepper, ancho chile, paprika, cinnamon, sea salt, and a dash of sugar to create the drink’s signature garnish. Sounds delish? We think so too! And such a perfect way to wake us up on these chillier mornings, no?

And as for the spice factor of the new drink, this is what Mackenzie Karr, a coffee education specialist at Starbucks, explained to Business Insider: “Our customers expect pumpkin spice every year … but we also need to continue to innovate. We’ve kind of taken the PSL, and taken the S and really blown it up.”

Only four more sleeps, guys!
