A prequel to The Crown is reportedly in the works

Kat O'Connor

Netflix is reportedly working on a prequel to The Crown.

Fans of the show will be thrilled to hear another series is in the making and it sounds fascinating.

It is believed the prequel will feature the Wallis Simpson scandal.

The drama series will take place all the way back in 1901, just after the death of Queen Victoria.

The main focus of the prequel will be Edward VIII’s abdication.

This storyline was featured in the original series but will be highlighted even more in the prequel.

The former king gave up his royal title after falling in love with Wallis Simpson.

Netflix is keen to feature the rise of socialism and fascism in Europe in the new series.

This series is still in development but we’re already eager to see who will play the leads.

Alex Jennings played King David perfectly in the first two seasons of The Crown so we’d be thrilled to see him return to the role.

But will Netflix hire someone completely different?

We will just have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, casting directors are currently looking for someone to play a young Kate Middleton.

They’re eager to feature the beginning of Prince William and The Duchess of Cambridge’s relationship in season 6.

Season 5 is likely to be released this year with Imelda Staunton taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth II.

Elizabeth Debicki also joins the cast as Princess Diana, taking over from Emma Corrin.

The fifth season will feature the downfall of Charles and Diana’s relationship.

It will also feature the breakdown of Princess Anne’s marriage, as well as Prince Andrew’s marriage.
