The Beth Project was conceived by Beth Beard and her photographer friend Blake Morrow. Beth was overweight and had decided to undergo a gastric bypass. The friends decided to create a unique series of before and after shots to celebrate Beth's weight loss of 150lb (10 1/2 stone) which took two years.
Beth and Morrow posed the first stage of each photograph just a few weeks before her surgery. Then two years later after a huge transformation Beth was able to model the second stage of the project. Beth returned playing a role opposite her old self in the clever series which sees Beth fighting herself in the ring, and playing both Laurel and Hardy and Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Although Morrow created the pictures using photoshop, he is clear that Beth's body has not been altered or enhanced in any way.
