Noticeably absent from the teaser is JK Rowling, making it unlikely that the author will be appearing in the New Years Day special. It has been reported, however, that she will be included via archival footage.
The first Harry Potter film was released in 2001 to massive commercial success.
Since the initial release of the books, the franchise has become a worldwide phenomenon, most notably launching the careers of then child-actors Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Grint (Ron Weasley), and Watson (Hermione Granger).
The latter took to Instagram to share the news of the series reunion last month, writing: "I am proud not just of what we as a group contributed as actors to the franchise but also as the children that became young adults that walked the path.
"I look at my fellow cast members now and I am just so proud of who everyone has become as people. I am proud we were kind to each other that we supported one another and that we held up something meaningful."
Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the series, also shared his excitement for the upcoming special on Twitter, saying: "Is this what school homecoming is like? Mark your calendars for New Years Day #ReturnToHogwarts."
