Ugly Betty actress America Ferrera announced that she is expecting her first child with her husband. The couple, who have been together for 12 years and married for six are thrilled to be parents-to-be.
America joined Stephen Colbert on his chat show for her first interview after announcing the news.
She spoke about the pregnancy and how they’ve already discussed names, or rather ruled out some they definitely will not be using. They include the baby being named “after a land mass or an idea”, like her name America.
She said, “I love my name now but growing up with the name America is not easy. I don’t want to put that on my child because I know what that feels like so I’m going to go with something that is more a name.”
She also said that she’s enjoying her pregnancy, but found it very different to ring in the New Year completely sober.
“I feel good, I feel really good, aside from a completely sober New Year’s Eve. But my dear husband built me a club in the apartment which just means he got lights and a fog machine.
I was stone cold sober so it just felt like a junior high party. Everyone else was having a great time.”
