A French couple from the southwest of France have been reported to authorities for naming their baby ‘Jihad.’
The new mum and dad, who live in the Toulouse suburb of Léguevin, gave birth to their son in August.
However, The Local reports that when they tried to register his name as ‘Jihad’ the town hall reported them to the authorities.
France is known for occasionally banning certain baby names from the country.
Over the years, parents have not been allowed to name their children ‘Mégane Renault’ (because of the car of the same name), ‘Joyeux’ (because it would cause embarrassment to the child), and ‘MJ’ (because of Michael Jackson).
It has not yet been confirmed whether the parents will be prohibited from calling their baby ‘Jihad.’
