Couple Find Out They Are Going to Be Parents In Unusual Way

HerFamily

Finding out that you’re going to be a parent is always a memorable moment but for one man, his story is rather unique.

David took to Reddit, under the username YoungPTone, earlier this month when he thought his wife’s fitness monitor was broken.

Apparently the Fitbit was showing that Ivonne had an elevated heart rate even when she wasn’t doing any exercise.

He wrote on the forum: “My wifes fitbit is showing her heartbeat being consistently high over the last few days. 2 days ago, a somewhat normal day, she logged 10 hours in the fat burning zone, which i would think to be impossible based on her activity level.

“Also her calories burned do seem accurate. I would imagine if she was in the the fat burning zone she would burn a ton of calories, so its not lining up.

“Im not sure if something is wrong with the sensor. is there a way to reset or recalibrate the device? Id like to try that before I contact customer service about a possible replacement [sic].”

Here is the pic of the screen that started it all! Mom and baby are doing ok. Spoke to the doctor yesterday.

One commenter suggested that she was stressed or pregnant. David said that the latter was a strong possibility but that he didn’t realise that a fast heart rate could be a sign. He later confirmed that they had done a pregnancy test and it was positive.

He also updated his original post, clarifying: “Thank you all for your overwhelming support! Its been awesome to read all the comments and well wishes, even the comments questioning whether I am in fact the father (gotta have a sense of humor on here, right?).

“I just wanted to say this is indeed real, I do not work for fitbit, this is not guerrilla marketing. This is real, the fear is real, the excitement is very real! I am a regular guy who was just looking for the communities help with his wife’s technology issue (we’ve all been there, right?).

“Little did i know I got alot more than I bargained for! Now I’m a regular guy who is preparing to have his first child brought into the world, god willing, in Oct 2016 [sic].”

According to the Live Strong website, it is normal for your resting heart rate to elevate by 15 to 20 beats per minute during the first trimester of pregnancy due to hormonal signals, namely increases in progesterone and estrogen.

However, if you experience a sudden increase in heart rate and/or other symptoms (such an a shortness of breath), you should see a doctor immediately.
