Pregnancy

This pregnant TV reporter had a brilliant response to body-shaming comments

Sive O'Brien

Working through pregnancy in a job that requires you to be in front of a television camera every day must be tough going. Especially if people start criticising your changing body.

Katie Fehlinger, an on-air meteorologist at CBS Philidelphia, has continued to work throughout her pregnancy while presenting the morning weather reports. Unfortunately, because some people are idiots, the mum-to-be has been on the receiving end of some very negative and cruel comments about the way she looks.

Katie has been called ‘disgusting’ and told she looks like a ‘sausage in casing’ by viewers who think it’s okay to act this way. It totally isn’t. Which is why Katie, now 35 weeks pregnant (with twins), has decided to fight back and respond to all the cowards with a brilliant post on Facebook that has gone viral.

She says, “Everyone’s right to their opinion is important, but so are manners. And while rude comments like these will never make me feel the need to change anything about myself, I find a bigger underlying issue here. These particular nasty-grams were directed at a pregnant woman.”

Dedicating her “manifesto of sorts” to every mother out there, she says, “You are beautiful. Even during the most uncomfortable – and let’s face it, less than glamorous – symptoms of pregnancy, what women go through to bring their precious children into the world is, simply put, AMAZING and you should be lauded.”

She ends her post by saying, “Let’s all remember the lesson Mom taught us – if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.” Well said!

A message for the haters…Hey guys! Once more, I have to get something off my chest. So, the nature of my job makes…
