VIDEO: Life-like Mannequin Giving Birth Is Kinda Cool

Sive O'Brien

Meet Victoria. She’s in labour. She’s telling the midwives that she feels like she’s going to throw up. Only she’s a mannequin…

She’s a high-tech, birthing-simulator created by Gaumard Scientific being currently used in the US for medical training.

Her birth canal is anatomically correct with a cervix that dilates and a baby that rotates as it does in real life as it travels down the canal, the baby even needs their umbilical cord cut when it’s born.

It’s midwifery training like you’ve never seen before. Have a peek for yourself – we can tell you it’s nowhere near as gruesome as some of the real-life videos shown at old-fashioned antenatal classes up-and-down our countries maternity hospitals. That stuff you can never unsee. NEVER.

For anyone about to experience labour, it’s worth a peek – of course, it’s not exactly like the real thing, and it’s kinda kooky, but it’s a pretty good visualisation of what happens during a normal labour and delivery. We only wish we were actually made of rubber for the birth so we don’t feel any pain!

Victoria seems to be strangely quiet throughout the whole experience too…
