Why you should be eating MORE vanilla yogurt

Katie Mythen-Lynch

If, like us, you’ve been haphazardly choosing yogurts with scant regard for their potential mental health benefits, then this may well change your life.

Turns out, low-fat vanilla yogurt is the handy snack with a crazy side-effect – the power to make us happier.

A group of researchers studied the reactions of three groups of 24 people as they tasted various flavours of yogurt, both regular and low fat.

The teams, from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Austria Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research in the Netherlands and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, found that low-fat vanilla yogurt elicits the strongest positive emotional response.

There was no difference in the participants’ reactions to strawberry and pineapple flavours, but regular fruit yogurt was the flavour that provoked the least reaction.
