There is no denying that film is a powerful medium, and can inspire us in all sorts of ways, from fashion choices to where we want to travel on our next holiday.

It is not surprising that films, both characters in them as well as titles themselves, can also be a major influence when it comes to choosing a baby name. And if you want to go down the route of letting the silver screen guide what moniker you choose for your little bundle, believe us when we say your options are pretty much endless.

Just to start you off, here are ten brilliant and iconic names from some truly famous movies:

1. Maverick

The literal definition of a maverick is a trail-blazer, and was a moniker that suited Tom Cruise’s fun and fearless Top Gun character to a tee.

2. Skylar

Matt Damon’s love interest in 1997’s Good Will Hunting, Skylar, is played by the impossibly adorable Minnie Driver.

3. Cole

Days of Thunder‘s Cole Trickle was also played by Tom Cruise, and we love that the name also sounds a little Western-y, no?

4. Madison

Daryl Hannah chooses her own human name after walking past a road sign on Madison Avenue in the 1984 movie, Splash, where she is originally a mermaid.
