Fancy a unique name for your baby? You could do worse than choosing one of these.

The Mirror has compiled a list of 13 names that have dwindled in popularity among British parents in recent years.

You probably know a few people with these names but for one reason or another, aren’t being chosen as baby names anymore.

We know that names go through cycles in terms of popularity – the most popular baby girl name in 1965 in Ireland was Mary, but you probably don’t know many baby Marys in 2018.

Last year, the top five most popular names for Irish baby boys were Jack, James, Daniel, Conor and Sean.

The best names for girls, meanwhile, were Emily, Emma, Amelia, Grace and Sophie.

They’re all beautiful choices but picking one could mean you child is one of three Emmas or Daniels in their class at school.

Choosing a name from this list, meanwhile, is almost sure to guarantee that your little one is one of a kind.

Some of the names here might seem a little plain or old-fashioned but they’re sure to come back around in popularity again and remember; a name doesn’t define a child, they’ll end up defining their name.

Here are the names that have fallen out of favour:

  1. Gary
  2. Annette
  3. Norman
  4. Elaine
  5. Linda
  6. Susan
  7. Ronald
  8. Carol
  9. Janet
  10. Nigel
  11. Donna
  12. Barry
  13. Debbie
