3 Easy, Healthy And Yummy Breakfasts To Make With Your Kids

Alison Bough

Cooking with your kids is such a great way to bond. It’s also a nice way to teach them about healthy eating, diet and nutrition. Involving them in the process from the start can entice them into trying out some super-healthy foods they might not otherwise try.

Having structured family meals, reducing the amount of meals eaten outside the home, and including your children in making meals from scratch are all great ways of encouraging healthy eating. Little ones will be super-proud of their culinary contribution, so make it fun and who knows, their sense of accomplishment might even lead to more adventurous meals. Well…we can try!

While you’re cooking, try and teach your smallies how important a good, healthy breakfast is to start the day. If time is an issue (when is it not?) try these ideas at the weekend when you’re not feeling rushed.

We love these 3 super-simple breakfast dishes to try out:

1. Pimped-up scrambled egg

English breakfast with scrambled eggs, avocado slices and roasted bacon

Who doesn’t love a bit of scrambled egg on toast in the morning? It’s a great source of protein, easy to make, and cracking eggs is fun! Try adding some tomatoes, mushrooms or avocado as a way to sneak some extra nutrients into the little ones before lunch time.

2. Fancy-Schmancy porridge

There are so many more options when it comes to this quick and easy breakfast. Try adding some blueberries as you cook it and enjoy the handy effects of your morning meal turning a delightful shade of blue or pink with berries.

3. Strawberry granola

This looks cleverly like a dessert to little eyes who rebel against a healthy brekkie. Layer up with muesli, yoghurt, strawberries or whatever fruit you have available or is in season, and a drizzle of honey. You might be able to sneak in a few seeds in too, if you’re lucky.
