Coconut water is supposedly REALLY good for pregnant women

HerFamily

When a woman finds out she is pregnant, it usually leads to a lot of changes in her lifestyle, especially diet (there are a lot of dos and don’ts).

It seems that there is one more item to add to the ‘do’ list: coconut water.

According to The Health Site, the Coconut Development Board (CDB) claims that it helps to maintain fluid levels and is packed full of electrolytes including calcium, magnesium and vitamin C.

The drink also contains some sugar, sodium and protein which are vital in keeping energy levels up and fatigue at bay (reckon a nap or two will still happen).

The organisation said that coconut water is particularly beneficial during the first trimester as it helps to combat morning sickness along with constipation, dehydration and heartburn.

THE CDB explained: “A pregnant woman’s body requires more fluids to replenish the needs of an unborn baby.

“It also helps to increase the volume of the blood in the body and prevents urinary tract infections and lowers high blood pressure.”

Think we might have a new favourite food… nope, that’s still chocolate but we love learning about the benefits of certain foods.

As with everything, we would say moderation is key and check with your doctor or nutritionist before consuming.
