Man (20s) killed after being struck by a train in Co. Meath

The incident occurred near Gormanston station in Meath.

A young man has tragically died and another has been injured following an incident near Gormanston station in Co. Meath.

One man, who was aged in his 20s, was struck by a train last night.

Another man, aged in his 30s, was also injured during the incident near Gormanston station.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 9.30 pm last night. Paramedics treated both men at the scene, but the man in his 20s was later pronounced dead.

His body has since been removed to Navan mortuary.

The other man’s injuries are not believed to be serious. Paramedics treated him for minor injuries following the incident.

The incident occurred on the Dublin to Belfast line, according to RTÉ. The man was reportedly struck by the 20.50 train which was travelling from Dublin Connolly to Belfast.

It is believed the two men were on the tracks moments before the tragedy unfolded.

Following the incident, the line remained closed for some time, but it has since reopened.

Full services resumed this morning, September 15th, Irish Rail confirmed.
