We’re going to start off by saying we definitely don’t think we wash our hats, gloves and scarves as much as we should.
Now, that has been confirmed.
According to realsimple.com, these items (which keep us nice and toasty in the colder months) should be washed three to five times a season.
That’s because they are exposed to all sorts of germs, as well as makeup and perspiration, over often prolonged periods of time.
Corinne Phipps, founder for a US wardrobe-consulting firm, told the website that knits should be hand-washed while leather gloves and structured hats need to be dry-cleaned.
It is also recommended that you leave items, including gloves, out to air otherwise they can create an unpleasant odour.
Those might not be the only winter items that you haven’t been treating properly. It seems tights should be washed after one wear. Yes, one.
As they are basically the same as socks and serve as a breeding ground for bacteria (which can lead to all sorts of infections), they should be treated the same way.
Anyone else throwing on a wash as soon as they get home this evening?
