10 baby names that sound like classics – yet are anything but traditional

Trine Jensen-Burke

No offence to the Norths and Blues and Zumes and Apples of this world.

But honestly, we must admit we are more inclined to be fans of something slightly more normal. These 10 celebrity baby names actually all sound like names – yet they are still totally unique and really, really pretty.

Are you currently looking for a little name inspiration that is not too out there, but will still make your bundle stand out in the moniker stakes? Why not take a leaf out of these celebrity parents’ books?

1. Clementine (Ryan and Ethan Hawke)

While Apple might be a little too fruity for some, we think Clementine has a more classic ring to it.

2. Hazel (Emily Blunt and John Krasinski)

Blue might not be everyone’s first choice if you were looking for a colour-coded moniker, but Hazel strikes that perfect balance between sounding like an actual name and still being the name of a hue.

3. Otis (Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis)

We just think this is one cool name for a little dude, no?

4. Marlowe (Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge)

Trust our all-time favourite boho princess, Sienna, to come up with this classic winner.

5. River (Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock)

We love River on its own, but when you add in the fact that this little lady’s middle name is Rose, we can’t help but wish we had thought of it first.

6. Brooklyn (Victoria and David Beckham)

Trust Posh’n’Becks to name their kid after the hippest neighbourhood in the world.

7. Zahara (Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt)

The place name trend just works so well in some cases. (This being one of them, clearly.)

8. Harlow (Nicole Richie and Joel Madden)

We can pretty much repeat what we said about Sienna Miller above on this one. LOVE this name.

9. Cleo (Zoe Buckman and David Schwimmer)

If you like Chloe, but are aware of 15 million other little girls with that moniker, Cleo might be the perfect solution. So much more chic, we think.

10. Silas (Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake)

When a superstar duo like Jess and Justin opt for this moniker for their son, it’s safe to say this one will fly up the popularity lists in no time.
