A mum has decided to sort out some of the common misconceptions about “plus-size pregnancies.”

Plus-size model Tess Holliday gave birth to her youngest child, Bowie, in the summer of last year.

However, after she announced her pregnancy on Instagram, among the messages of congratulations were assumptions that her baby would not be healthy due to her size.

Tess is a size 20 and frequently promotes body positivity and speaks about her experiences as a plus-size model.

The British mum recently told Cafe Mom all about her “plus-size pregnancy” and how the negative comments affected (or didn’t affect) her.

She said that plus-size women are giving birth “every day.”

“I tried to ignore it. So many people kept saying there was no way I could have a healthy pregnancy.

“I obviously proved them wrong.”

Baby Bowie was born to parents Tess and Nick in June of last year.

The model said that expectant mums who are plus-size shouldn’t listen to what other people say about them.

“All bodies and pregnancies are different; you can’t generalize them. Listen to your body and trust it, do what you feel is best.

“Enjoy it as much as possible too, because it goes by so fast and you will miss it. I know I do!”

When she was pregnant, Tess shared an Instagram post detailing how “amazing” her body was.

She wrote that “every kick, every pain” was incredible to her.

“I get constantly shamed & criticized for existing in this body, but the problem isn’t my size, it’s others inability to comprehend that beauty doesn’t come pre-packaged in one size.

“I’m embracing my stomach getting bigger, stretch marks, & loving this little life I’m growing.”
