UK Survey Says Three Quarters of New Mums Struggle With Breastfeeding

HerFamily

Over three quarters of new mothers in the UK find it difficult to breastfeed, according to a new survey.

The study found that 81 per cent struggled with it and 72 per cent sought help from a midwife or specialist.

The Telegraph reports that the research, conducted by The Baby Show and MadeForMums, also found that the majority (67 per cent) of new mums breastfed and used bottles for their new arrival.

Breastfeeding and storage: Frozen mother milk with ice around the bottle freshly taken out of the freezer.

More worrying was that almost half of of those asked said that they felt pressured to breastfeed.

Over two thirds said that this pressure came from society while others said that they put pressure on themselves.

Choosing whether to breastfeed is a personal decision and you have to do what’s right for you. If you’re thinking about breastfeeding, check out these top tips from a lactation consultant. Alternatively, here are some pointers on combination feeding.
