A US company now provide ‘maternity concierges’ for their staff

A banking company in the US is providing ‘maternity concierges’ for their staff, to help expectant mums or employees with children under the age of one.

Personal banking company Fifth Third Bancorp hired two maternity concierges at the beginning of the year. The specialist service assist the bank’s staff with personal matters such as preparing hospital bags, baby shower planning, and ordering breast pumps.

The caring company have also announced plans to increase their maternity leave, which currently provides six week leave at 100% or 60% of pay. The Wall Street Journal reports that the financial institution has taken the progressive steps in order to reduce the number of female employees who leave the company after going on maternity leave.

Jessica Hanson, one of the bank’s maternity concierges, told the Wall Street Journal, “we’re like a wedding planner, but we’re your baby planner.”

The organisation is following in the footsteps of other business giants attempting to make life easier for mums-to-be and new parents. Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson will even foot the bill for female employees who want to ship breast milk home from business trips.
