14 Questions To Ask Before Flying With Children

HerFamily

Flying with kids can be a daunting experience but there are some things you can address and organise beforehand to make the journey less stressful.

We’ve devised a list of questions to try to help you avoid any dramas and, as always, we welcome your suggestions (just add yours in the Facebook comments).

Do they need their own ticket or can they be added to yours?

Are there any discounts for children?

What documentation do you need (eg. if your child has a different surname to you)?

Do they have a passport and is it in date?

Do you have something for them to suck on when taking off and landing?

How long is the flight?

Do you need to bring in-flight entertainment/toys?

What exactly can you bring on the plane?

Are their extra charges for prams etc.?

What food options are there for kids?

Is it possible for flight staff to warm a bottle?

Can you have seats together?

Are there free seats on the plane and can you be positioned next to them for more space?

Are there baby-changing facilities on board?

Note: All children, regardless of age, must have an individual Irish passport in their own name and all passports need to be in date with at least six months to their expiry date.

You can get further information on the Citizens Information website but it is important to also check the rules and regulations of specific airlines.
